Motorcycle Safety Tips

As the weather warms up, you may start to notice more and more motorcycles on the road. Whether you are getting your bike ready to ride or you drive in an area where there are a lot of motorcyclists, it is important that you know how to keep yourself and those around you safe on the road. Some simple habits may end up saving your life or the life of others on the road.

First, if you are riding a motorcycle it is extremely important that you always have a helmet on. You want to make sure that your helmet is well made and whether you are getting on your bike for a long trip or just a ride down the road, you should have your helmet secured on your head. A fall that would only result in minor injuries if you have a helmet on can be lethal if you do not have a helmet on.

The other gear that you are wearing as a motorcyclist will also be important. You want to make sure that you have a leather jacket that you can wear and pants that will protect your skin if you should fall. The right equipment can make all of the difference in any type of accident.

Second, if you are not driving a motorcycle it is important that you are always aware of your surroundings. Motorcycles accelerate quickly and you may not even realize that you have a motorcyclist in your blind spot. Take time to be checking your surroundings on a consistent basis.

Third, whether you are in a motorcycle or a car, you should make sure that your vehicle is ready to drive before heading out on the road. You want to be sure that your lights are working properly, your brakes are in good shape, and you are able to steer your car effectively.

This spring and summer, make sure that you are safe and that those on the road around you are safe. It may only take you a few extra minutes, but it will be well worth your time.
